The World Wide Web is a massive collection of web sites, all hosted on computers (called web servers) all over the world. The web server (computer) where your web site's html files, graphics, etc. reside is known as the web host. Web hosting clients simply upload their web sites to a shared (or dedicated) web server, which we the Internet Service Provider, maintain to ensure a constant, fast connection to the Internet.
Web hosting is a service which provides Internet users with online systems for storing information, images, video, or any content accessible via the web. We provide space on a server for use by our clients as well as providing Internet connectivity.
E mail is a protocol for sending user to user messages across the Internet. Mail is usually text based, but can be extended to attach other types of data (for example. Graphics or sound).
SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) is the protocol used to transfer e-mail.
POP3 is the abbreviation for Post Office Protocol — a data format for delivery of e-mails across the Internet.
Mainstream Digital has it's own 'Business only' managed network offering 2Mb ADSL as standard. The service consists of two Broadband IP networks, the Primary standard network being optimised bandwidth 256k to 8Mb. The Primary Advanced network is a fully managed service with bandwidth 1Mb to 1Gb+, with quality of service and service level agreements.
Both networks are monitored extensively by the use of packet shapers, which enable Mainstream to provide a cleaner more efficient and therefore faster service that most other carriers. Mainstream have developed our own VoIP network to bring a revolutionary change to voice telephony.
